The date has been set for this year's Deep RiverRock 'Race Round the River'. On Wednesday 13 March over 1,000 runners will be pounding the roads around the Stranmillis and Annadale embankments.

In a move away from the normal race format we will be hosting three races this year. The Championship 5k, Standard 5k and the 3k race.

The Championship 5k race will start at 7:15pm and is open to participants with a time of 20 minutes or less, the standard 5k is an open race and starts at 7:35pm. Our  3k race will start things off at 6:50pm.

This year’s race is again supported by principal partner Deep RiverRock with additional support from Belfast City Council's – Support for Sport Fund.

Speaking about the new race format, Kevin Murray, Participation Sport Manager at Queen’s said, “following some feedback from previous participants and to build on our reputation as the top 5k race in Northern Ireland we have introduced a ‘Championship 5k race’ this year. This will ensure the best possible racing experience for all levels.  University staff, students and the wider community will have the opportunity to take part in a unique event for sport at the University.

Captain of Queen’s Athletics Club, Adam Hilditch commented: “As a club we work very hard with University Staff, race partners and our student volunteers to put on a race that everyone enjoys and feels part of the Queen’s community.  We have some exciting plans this year with pre and post-race entertainment and hospitality. This year all entrants will receive a specially branded free t-shirt and prizes for top 3 finishers in all races. Adam added, “We are really looking forward to the Championship 5k race and hope to attract some of the best local, national and international 5k athletes this year.

Shane Mc Quaid, Marketing Manager, Deep RiverRock said: “We are delighted to offer continued support to this fantastic ‘Race Round the River’ event at Queen’s University and we are thrilled to see this excellent event coming back around this year. As always, Deep RiverRock will be on hand on the day to keep racers hydrated with locally sourced water in our 100% Recycled Bottles - which is a real Nice One!.”
