Deep RiverRock Queen’s 5k ‘Race Round the River’

The date has been set for this year's Deep RiverRock 'Race Round the River'. On Wednesday 2 April 2025 over 1,000 runners will be taking to the roads around the Stranmillis and Annadale embankments.

Continuing on with our successful race format change in 2024, we will be hosting three races this year: Elite 5k NI and Ulster 5k Championships, Open 5k NI and Ulster 5k Championships and the 3k race.

Our 3k race will start things off at 6:50pm, followed with the Elite 5k race, starting at 7:15pm (open to participants with a time of 20 minutes or less) and our Open 5k race starts at 7:35pm.

This year’s race is again supported by principal partner Deep RiverRock with additional support from Belfast City Council's – Support for Sport Fund.

Speaking about the race format, Kevin Murray, Participation Sport Manager at Queen’s said, “following some feedback from previous participants and to build on our reputation as the top 5k race in Northern Ireland we have continued with an ‘Elite 5k race’ this year. This ensures the best possible racing experience for all levels.  University staff, students and the wider community will have the opportunity to take part in a unique event for sport at the University.

Queen’s Athletics Club are working very hard with University Staff, race partners and student volunteers to put on a race that everyone enjoys and feels part of the Queen’s community.  There are some exciting plans this year with pre and post-race entertainment and hospitality. This year all entrants will receive a specially branded free t-shirt and prizes for top 3 finishers in all races. With the continuation of our Elite 5k race, we hope to attract some of the best local, national and international 5k athletes this year.

We are delighted Deep RiverRock will be continuing to support our fantastic ‘Race Round the River’ event at Queen’s University. As always, Deep RiverRock will be on hand on the night to keep racers hydrated with locally sourced water in their 100% Recycled Bottles!
