Queen's Grads 50th Anniversary Celebrations
Founded in 1973, Queen's Grads has been a pillar of unity and sporting excellence in the Belfast community. With four dedicated teams competing each week, two in the Northern Amateur Football League (NAFL) and two in the Down Area Winter Football League (DAWFL), Grads FC has a rich history and an even brighter future.
Grads FC owes its existence to the vision and passion of its four founding members: Denis Clarke, Turlough Birch, Pete Johnson, and Davey Hamilton. Their collective dream was to create a football club that would not only thrive on the pitch but also foster a sense of community off it.
Queen's Sport Upper Malone, formally known as The Dub have been the heart and soul of Grads FC for nearly five decades.
Grads FC's commitment to excellence on the field has led to remarkable achievements. The club's first team clinched the Cochrane Corry Cup during the 1995/96 season, a testament to their skill and determination. Additionally, they claimed the 2B title in the 2008/2009 season, cementing their status as a force to be reckoned with.
Beyond trophies and accolades, Grads FC remains a beacon of unity, bringing together individuals from diverse backgrounds through their shared love for football.
On Sunday 24 September QUB Grads played against QUB Grads QUB Legends as part of the Grads 50th Anniversary Celebrations and saw a well-contested 1-1 draw.
The event raised valuable funds for Alzheimer’s Society, as well as being an enjoyable sporting day out for everyone involved.
